About

The Southwest Chapter of the American Musicological Society is a group of scholars, performers, and composers in the Southwest region of the United States. Our website provides information about upcoming meetings, news for and about our members, and general information of interest to the membership.

We are part of the American Musicological Society, a national organization founded in 1934 to advance research in the various fields of music as a branch of learning and scholarship.  Find out more about the fifteen AMS chapters  by following the link. The names and contact information of chapter officers can be found  in the AMS Directory.

Membership in the AMS-Southwest Chapter is separate from membership with the national American Musicological Society. You may be a member of the Chapter without being a member of the national organization. Membership dues for AMS-SW are collected online through the central office of the American Musicological Society. As of 2024, the rate is $25 for income of $70,000 and up, $15 for income between $40,000 and $70,000, and $10 for income under $20,000. Membership lasts for the duration of each calendar year.

In accordance with AMS bylaws, presenters at AMS-SW Chapter meetings are required to hold membership in both the AMS-SW Chapter and in AMS.

AMS-SW membership is not required to attend chapter meetings and other events.

Thank you for your on-going support in our musicological meetings and endeavors.
